Caste-based Census in India

Just in the recent past, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar along with the leaders of most of the parties including the ruling party BJP from Bihar met and verbalized with the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi in support of caste-based census should be held in this coming future. Which is mostly fixated on the caste count of the OBC category.

In September 2018, the then Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, promulgated that the upcoming census will have Other Backward Class(OBC) data. But on 20th July 2021, in an inscribed reply to a question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityananda Rai had verbally expressed that the govt. of India has decided as a matter of policy not to enumerate caste sapient population other than SCs and STs in the upcoming census.
